SMASH IT!!
First Birthday Cake Smash Sessions!
Finding The Right Smash Cake Photographer
We absolutely love to work with small children. We know how difficult little ones can be at times and we have experience with kids. They know how to make changes to keep your little one entertained and happy. The camera and someone hid behind it can be scary. We like to play “peek-a-boo” make oinking and farting noises, we tickle and sing, whatever it takes to help ease the situation. Tip: You can also bring your child's favorite toys from home to help as well.
Booking The Right Time Of Day
To help ensure you get the best outcome for your child’s first birthday, choosing the right time of day is key. Little ones have their own schedules, and you know what works best for them and your family. I have found that morning time works better for most cake smash sessions. Planning your photos around nap time and meals is important as well. We all know that a feed and well rested child is at their best. Tip: You can also bring along some puffs or cheerios to keep your little one in place or as a good distraction when needed.
Bring Outfit Changes
Your little one only turns one once. When someone books a cake smash first birthday session with me, I will have them bring one or two other outfits. Before your little one gets all messy, we will take some photos of them in another outfits and backdrops. We also have some outfits at the studio that are available or clients to use during their session. Tip: If you are unsure of what to bring, think simple, nothing to busy and make sure you try it on them before your session to ensure that it fits properly.
Have A Practice Smash Cake
Yes, practice eating cake or something more on the sweet side with your little one before their session. Most kids have not had the opportunity to try cake or icing before their first birthday. This is normal, but we want them to be familiar with it before their smash cake photos. Let them practice getting messy! Letting them practice beforehand gets them used to the feel and taste of a cake. The best way to do this is with a cupcake. By doing this, they are more familiar of what is going on the day of the smash cake photos. Tip: Bring wipes or a wet face cloth in a zip lock bag, depending on how messy your child gets, that will definitely help with the cleanup of the child.
